Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have to cancel or miss an appt?

All confirmed appointments must be canceled 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations or no-shows may result in a full fee charge.

Do you offer telehealth?

We offer a HIPAA-compliant telehealth option for all session types. If you cannot come to a scheduled in-person appointment, a telehealth (video) meeting may be substituted via your client portal at no additional charge.

How do I pay for copays and deductibles?

At the end of each business day, all client balances (deductibles & copays) will be charged to the credit card on file (auto-pay).

Do you offer medication management?

Yes! We are currently contracted with Tricare (non-network), United, and Sentara Health Plans.

Why doesn’t my insurance cover couples counseling?

Medical Insurance is designed to cover medical necessity and requires a medical diagnosis. If your family is an integral part of your mental health, then your insurance may support it in accordance with your individual treatment. There are no current medical policies that cover relationship counseling.

What is the Gottman method?

The Gottman Method is an empirical, research-based approach to couples therapy founded on over 40 years of tracking real relationship outcomes rather than unproven theories. Whereas traditional therapy can be open-ended, exploratory, and heavily focused on past roots or individual psychology, the Gottman Method is highly structured, goal-oriented, and behavioral.

*It may be less effective for severe domestic crises, active addiction, or untreated mental health disorders that need specialized intervention first.
